Annual Bio-Solids Removal at Wastewater Treatment Plant May Increase Odours

Posted:

Residents of Marysville may start noticing odours from the Pollution Control Centre (PCC) located below Marysville, adjacent to Mark Creek and the St. Mary River. Rising temperatures and bio-solids removal activities will increase smells from the facility from spring through summer.

Bio-solids removal must be done in the spring and summer months. The process can be annoying to residents but is essential to ensure space for annual bio-solids accumulations.

Other factors contributing to odours are the various chemicals and other substances being flushed or drained into the wastewater treatment infrastructure. These chemicals reduce the PCC’s ability to break down bio-solids efficiently. We urge the public to play a crucial role in this process by ensuring they are disposing of these substances properly and not flushing them down the toilet or releasing them down their drains.

Again, residents in Marysville can expect weather and wind-dependent odours to persist through the spring and summer. Thank you for your patience as we work to ensure the plant can operate efficiently and effectively.
