Spring Odours from the Pollution Control Centre

Heads-Up for Marysville Residents: Spring Odours from the Pollution Control Centre

With spring in full swing, you might notice some stronger smells coming from the Pollution Control Centre (PCC). This is totally normal and happens every year during our seasonal bio-solids work.

Each spring and summer, the City carries out important maintenance to remove and dry bio-solids, which can lead to more noticeable odours. Depending on the weather and wind, the smells might come and go throughout the warmer months. Things like wipes, grease, and household chemicals that get flushed down the drain can also make the smell worse, so please help us out by disposing of those items properly.

Looking Ahead: We’re working on long-term solutions! Planning is underway for a brand-new wastewater treatment plant, with construction currently planned to begin in spring 2026. This upgrade will make a big difference in reducing odours and improving overall treatment.

Thanks for your patience and understanding as we get through this seasonal work.

We really appreciate your cooperation!
