Safety Improvements Coming to Ross Street and Wallinger Avenue Intersection
Work will begin Friday, October 16th on improvements to the intersection of Ross Street and Wallinger Avenue, home to Kimberley’s only traffic light. The project is aimed at improving visibility and safety for pedestrians and motorists.
The City of Kimberley has heard concerns from residents about this intersection for many years. The location was also identified through the City’s Active Transportation Network Plan as an area where improvements could help create safer, more accessible connections for people moving through the community. City staff have continued to advocate to the Province of B.C. for improvements at the intersection, and that work is now moving forward.
Planned improvements include realigning the intersection area to improve sightlines, installing new curb letdowns at three corners, and realigning the sidewalk on the east side of the intersection. Together, the changes are intended to improve visibility and make the intersection safer and easier to navigate for pedestrians and motorists.
Construction is expected to continue through the remainder of October. Drivers and pedestrians should expect construction activity in the area and are asked to pay close attention to posted signage, use caution and give crews plenty of room to complete the work safely.
This project is a great example of how identifying community concerns, incorporating them into long-term planning and continuing to advocate for improvements can lead to meaningful changes on the ground.
The City thanks the Province of B.C. for responding to the concerns raised about this location and for investing in improvements that will help make the intersection safer and more accessible for everyone.
or, more importantly, for play!
