Road Closure Notice: 5th Avenue and Moyie Street
The City of Kimberley would like to inform residents of an upcoming road closure at the intersection of 5th Avenue and Moyie Street in the Townsite neighbourhood.
This change follows many years of concerns and complaints from residents regarding vehicle speeds and safety in the area. To address these concerns, City staff worked with transportation safety advisors to review traffic patterns and identify the safest and most effective solution.
Based on this review, it was determined that the best path forward is to close the roadway to vehicle traffic at this location. Once the closure is in place, drivers will be redirected via Cranbrook Street to 4th Avenue or down 6th Avenue or 8th Avenue.
As part of these improvements, the main entrance to Triangle Park will be relocated from Cranbrook Street. This change is intended to improve safety for children and families accessing the park by reducing their interaction with traffic movements near the current entrance.
We understand that changes to established traffic routes can take time to adjust to, and some residents may experience minor inconveniences as they adapt to the new traffic pattern. However, improving safety for residents, park users, and all road users has been the primary consideration in this decision.
Barrier installations are expected to begin in the coming weeks. We appreciate the community's patience and understanding as these improvements are implemented, and we thank residents for their ongoing support in helping make Townsite safer for everyone.

As a follow-up to the previous press release on the fire that occurred at the Kimberley Public Works Yard on Christmas Eve, we would like to provide additional information to the community.
At approximately 4:00 p.m. today, the Kimberley Fire Department responded to a fire at the Public Works Yard. Fire crews arrived quickly and were able to contain and extinguish the fire.
The Kimberley Fire Department is currently managing a fire at the City’s Public Works Yard. The situation is under control, and there have been no injuries reported.
Due to unexpected mechanical issues with the collection truck, the Route C garbage pickup scheduled for today, December 18th, will be delayed to tomorrow, Friday, December 19th.
We are currently addressing a water main break in the area surrounding Selkirk Secondary School. The school and homes within the area outlined on the attached map are affected.
