Flood Watch in Effect for Kimberley

Posted:

The City of Kimberley is advising residents that a Flood Watch is currently in effect due to forecasted rainfall, combined with snowmelt, over the coming days.

Local creeks and rivers are already running high, and conditions may change quickly, increasing the risk of localized flooding and hazardous conditions near waterways.

Residents are strongly urged to:

  • Stay well back from creeks and rivers.
  • Keep children and pets away from fast-moving water.
  • Be aware that banks may be unstable and debris may be present.
  • Take proactive steps if living in low-lying or flood-prone areas.
  • If you have a culvert on your property, please check that it is clear of debris. Check the catch basins on your street to ensure they are clear as well.
  • Report issues to the City at https://bit.ly/opsready-home.

To support residents, the City has set up a self-serve sandbagging station at Centennial Hall. Sand and bags are available; please bring your own shovel and gloves.

“Now is the time to prepare, not wait,” said Fire Chief Will Booth. “Even small creeks can change quickly during these conditions.”

The City will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide updates as needed.
