Spring Odours from the Pollution Control Centre

Posted:

With spring in the air, you may notice some stronger smells from Kimberley’s Wastewater Treatment Plant. While not pleasant, this is normal and happens each year during seasonal biosolids work.

Each spring and summer, the City carries out important maintenance to remove and dry biosolids. Warmer temperatures and wind conditions can make odours more noticeable at times. Items like wipes, grease, and household chemicals flushed down the drain can also make odours worse, so please help by disposing of these properly.

Looking ahead: The good news is that construction is now underway on Kimberley’s new wastewater treatment plant. Once complete, the modern facility will include advanced odour‑control systems and enclosed processing — a major improvement that will significantly reduce odours.

Thanks for your patience and understanding as we complete this seasonal work and move toward a long‑term solution. We truly appreciate your cooperation.
