Vulnerable Persons Database Launched

A new database has been launched for those who may need extra care and assistance in the event of an evacuation.

The 2026 Vulnerable Persons Database is a free, voluntary and confidential service designed to identify and support residents who may face challenges such as:
  • Mobility issues
  • Vision or hearing impairments
  • Learning disabilities
  • Mental health concerns
  • Dependence on electricity for medical equipment
  • Limited access to internet or technology
  • No vehicle access

Residents experiencing temporary vulnerability such as recovery from surgery or injury are also encouraged to register. Individuals receiving 24-hour professional care are not eligible to register but should connect with their care provider.

“By registering ahead of time, residents who may need extra help due to mobility, medical needs, or other circumstances, ensure emergency crews know where they are and what support they'll need in advance. This registry helps emergency personnel plan for them before an emergency happens and will add a measure of extra protection to support our most vulnerable residents,” says Regional Information Officer, Loree Duczek.

There are two ways to register:

  • By phone, call 250-426-2188 or 1-855-346-2188 
Residents must provide a current address and phone number.

This information ensures that emergency services can respond effectively during critical situations. In the event of an evacuation, those listed on the registry will be contacted directly by emergency personnel.
